📍 Day 1: Bangalore to Madurai – Temple Town

We boarded the Tuticorin Express from Bangalore and reached Madurai Railway Station the next morning. Checked into Hotel Vijay, freshened up, and headed to the iconic Meenakshi Amman Temple 🛕.

🛕 Meenakshi Temple – History & Darshan

This historic temple, dedicated to Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Sundareswarar, dates back to the 6th century. Its magnificent gopurams, detailed sculptures, and spiritual aura left us in awe.

Since it was a weekend, we took special darshan tickets. A kind priest guided us inside the Shiva shrine, where he performed Archane and Ashtottara. The spiritual vibrations inside were powerful. ✨

We initially planned to eat in the temple premises but due to the crowd, we had lunch on the way. Then, we booked a taxi to proceed toward Rameshwaram.

🛣️ Journey to Rameshwaram

On the way, we passed by the old and new Pamban bridges 🌉 — architectural marvels connecting the island to mainland India. We took some stunning pictures 📸.

We hoped to visit the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Memorial, but it was closing time and we couldn't make it. We then reached Hotel Raghavendra, checked in, freshened up, and headed to the Ramanathaswamy Temple.

We opted for the normal darshan line. The darshan was divine. Unlike Kashi’s small linga, here you can see the Jyotirlinga from a distance — truly mesmerizing. 🙏

After darshan, we had dinner at a local restaurant (though our hotel has an in-house kitchen 🍛). Then, we did some shopping 🛍️ before heading back to the hotel for a good night's rest.

🌅 Day 2: Spatika Linga Darshan & 22 Theerthams (holy wells)

We started early — around 4:00–4:30 AM — for the Spatika Linga Darshan. Despite the hour, there was already a huge crowd. We again opted for the special darshan and it took us about an hour.

💎 What is Spatika Linga Darshan?

The Spatika (crystal) Linga is worshipped during early morning hours. It’s said to radiate healing energy and is different from the main Jyotirlinga — a rare and blessed sight.

🚿 22 Theerthams (holy wells) – Ritual of Purification

Post-darshan, a local approached us offering to assist with the 22 Theerthams (holy wells) ritual. As we had a small child and it was quite crowded, we went with him. He guided us well — pouring water from each sacred well. 💦

Each of the 22 theertham is believed to wash away sins and purify the body and soul. Though you can do it for ₹25 by standing in the queue, having someone guide us made it easier.

After the bath, we enjoyed a hot coffee ☕ and returned to our hotel to change clothes.

🌊 Pouring Ganga Water on the Linga

We had brought Ganga water from Kashi with us. As per tradition, you are allowed to pour it on the Linga only after 6:00 AM. So, after breakfast, a few of us went back to the temple, stood in the normal line, and offered the sacred water 💧— a beautiful moment connecting Kashi and Rameshwaram.

🛕 Panchamukhi Hanuman Temple & Floating Stone

Next, we visited the Panchamukhi Hanuman Temple, known for the unique idol of Lord Hanuman with five faces. Each face symbolizes a different deity and direction — a rare sight.

We also saw the legendary floating stone used by Lord Rama to build the Rama setu to Lanka. It was amazing to witness — light enough to float, yet solid. 🪨

🛍️ More Shopping, Lunch & Rest

On the way back to the hotel, we did some cloth shopping 🛍️. Then had a delicious lunch at Kanchi Peetam 🍽️ — a spiritual eatery serving authentic South Indian food. A short nap followed, giving us a bit of rest before our final visit.

🌊 Evening at Dhanushkodi – Land’s End

Later in the afternoon, we drove to Dhanushkodi — the place where the Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean meet. It’s also where Lord Rama is believed to have started building the bridge to Lanka.

This mystical ghost town was destroyed in the 1964 cyclone and now stands in silence — surrounded by sea, stories, and sand. 🌬️ As it was very windy, we couldn’t stay long but it was an incredible experience nonetheless.

🚆 Journey Back – Ramanathapuram to Bangalore

After returning to the hotel and having an early dinner, we headed to Ramanathapuram Railway Station for our journey back home. We boarded the Rameswaram Express (Train No. 16526) to Banaswadi, Bangalore.

🙏 Wrapping Up – Second Jyotirlinga Yatra Complete

This marks the end of our second Jyotirlinga Yatra — after Kashi, now Rameshwaram. Every moment was filled with devotion, discovery, and peace. This journey wasn’t just about travel — it was a true spiritual experience. 🕉️
