4 days trip to 12 famous Temples in Karnataka (Day 3)

I am really excited to write about Day 3. Reason behind that is, I will be writing about the temples located at my native place. In my childhood, almost every summer holiday my grandma used to take me to these temples. May be that's how my interest towards visiting temples and knowing their significance started.

Day 3 started from visiting Annegude temple

Travel time - depends on where you stayed. For us, it took may be 10 mins.
Address - Anegudde Vinayaka Temple Road, Kumbhashi, Karnataka 576257
Timings - 6am - 8:30pm

My experience -  We reached temple around 7am. Nice and calm place. Well maintained. This is considered to be one of the seven muktisthala. The 7 holy places namely Subrahmanya, Udupi, Kumbaashi, Koteshwara, Shankaranarayana, Kolluru and Gokarna together constitute Parashurama Kshetra. These holy places are compared with seven holy places in Rama Kshetra, namely, Ayodhya, Mathura, Maya, Kashi, Kanchi, Avanthika and Puri.

Main god here is Ganesha. It is believed that devotees wishes are fulfilled by the lord here. You can also visit Harihara temple, where harihara is in linga form and also you can visit Suryanarayana temple.

Annegude to Amrutheshwari temple

Travel time -  7 mins (5.5 km)
Address - Near Kota Kashi Math, Fisheries Road, Kota, Udupi, Karnataka 576221
Timings - 6 am - 8 pm

My experience -  This temple is also called as Halavu Makala Thayi Kshetra. Must visit place. There are 100s of Lingas inside the temple. They are believed to be growing every year. If you perform oil abhisheka on the Lingas and make a wish, it will be fulfilled. But it all depends on your belief.

Sri Amrutheshwari temple to Saligrama

Travel time - 4 mins (3.2 km)
Address - Sri Gurunarasimha temple, Saligrama, Karnataka 576225
Timings - 6am - 1pm, 4 - 8pm

My experience - There are two temples opposite to each other in Saligrama, Gurunarasimha temple and Anjaneya temple. These temples have records dating back to over a thousand years and nearly four centuries before the time of Jagadguru Sri Shankaracharya. It is derived from the Padma Purana that Narada Maharshi originally placed the idol of Guru Narasimha in its current place.

An idol of Anjaneya Swami is also located outside the temple directly facing the eyesight of Guru Narsimha to reduce the "Ugra" nature of the Lord and hence stop the burning of crops. The idol is smeared with Sindhura and butter in order to reduce the burning effect of Guru Narasimha's sight.

It is a practice for tourists travelling long distances to stop in front of the Anjaneya Swami temple and offer kanike to the deity and only then pass on in order to ensure that they reach their destination safely.

Saligrama to Sri Krishna temple, Udupi

Udupi Krishna - only one song comes to my mind, probably for everyone ... "bagilanu teredu seveyanu kodo hariye"..... from movie Bhakta Kanakadasa.

Travel time - 28 mins (22 km)
Address - Maruthi Veethika, Udupi, Karnataka 576101
Timings - 6:30am - 9 pm

My experience - We reached around 12pm. Probably that day was very lucky for us. We got an opportunity to see Gurugalu (Sri Sri Vishwesha Tirtha Swamiji) performing Pooja to Lord Krishna and to have Prasadam with Gurugalu. We were very blessed and fortunate. You won't get such a delicious meal anywhere. Everything was served hot and there were many types of dishes.

Udupi to Kateel Durgaparameshwari temple

Travel time - 57 mins (45km)
Address - Temple Rd, Ullanje, Karnataka 574150
Timings - 5:30am - 9:30pm

My experience - We reached around 4pm. The Linga of the main deity, Goddess Durga Parameshwari is an Udbhavalinga which means that it is self-manifested and not installed by anyone.  The Linga is decorated in the form of Goddess Ambika, a form of Durga who symbolizes marital and family harmony. The Goddess is bathed with tender coconut water as it is believed that it is her favorite drink. No one drinks Tender coconut water in the Kateel Durga Parameshwari Temple without offering it to the Goddess first.

Kateel to Dharmasthala

Lakshadeepotsava Dharmasthala

Timings - 1hr 50min (69km)
Address - Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala, Karnataka 574216
Timings - 6am - 2:30pm, 5:30 - 9pm

My experience - We reached around 6:30pm. Streets were crowded but decorated with lights everywhere, as we went during the lakshadeepotsava. We checked in hotel and then went to visit temple. Bit crowded but very well organized. Dinner at temple. Hatsoff to people who cook over there. I remember watching a show about the Annadasoha in temple.

Day 3 comes to an end.
