2 days trip to Dharmasthala and Kukke Subramanya

Probably you would be thinking, what is special in that? One day in Dharmasthala and another day Kukke Subramanya.

But !!!!

I will be writing about the temples, which are on the way to these temples and also have their own history and beliefs.

There is a saying that we should first visit Dharmasthala and then Kukke Subramanya (Father first and then son).

So ....

Day 1


Bangalore to Shri Sadashiva Rudra Temple (Surya Temple)

The Surya temple is probably only one of its kind because of its unique tradition of clay offerings which symbolizes man's Earthly desires. The devotees along with their clay offerings have to go to the temple preferably on Mondays along with a coconut and a kg of rice. After a thorough examination of the idol the priest accepts the offerings on behalf of God. All the offerings are placed in a circular shaped pile near the temple which consists clay models of Children, cradles, limbs, houses, automobiles, coconuts, cattle, bullock carts, snakes, tortoise, eyes, ears etc..

Total travel time - 6hr 30 mins (310 kms)

Timings - 8:30am - 2 pm, 4pm - 6:30pm

It would be good, if you leave early from Bangalore and be there by afternoon for Darshana and lunch.

Shri Sadashiva Rudra Temple to Shree Rama Kshetra

Rich with artistic beauty, the temple has ‘Vastu’ of Tamilnadu, rich granite stones of Rajasthan, beautiful designs carved by the sculptors of Andhra Pradesh, Maharastra, Kerala, Tamilnadu and Rajasthan. The ground floor of the 3-storey structure is used for functions and bhajans while there are sanctum sanctorums in  the II floor and the III floor houses ‘Pattabhirama Sannidhi’. Lord Hanuman, ‘Navadurgha’ and ‘Navagraha’ are also being worshiped in this beautiful temple. The three chariots built in 2007 are the special attraction of the Kshetra. Sculptors carved a 72 feet high ‘Brahmaratha’ for Lord Rama. Another chariot with 36 feet height is dedicated for Lord Aanjaneya.

The Kshetra also has an 18 feet tall silver chariot. A beautiful garden with fountains and colourful lighting attracts the devotees towards this holy atmosphere.

Shree Rama Kshetra to Dharmastala

Timings - 6am - 2:30pm, 5:30 - 9pm

Stay in Dharmastala. There are many accomodations available near to the temple.

Day 2


Dharmastala to Sowthadka Sri Maha Ganapathi Temple

The uniqueness of the place is Lord Maha Ganapathi is out in the open field without a 'Garbha gudi' and temple structure. It is surrounded by greenery and open round the clock for offering prayers. The temple is decorated with lot of Bells mainly, offered by worshippers who have special wishes.

Sowthadka to Kukke Subramanya

Timings - 5 am - 1:30pm, 3:30 - 9:30pm

Kukke Subrahmanya to Abhaya Mahaganapathi Temple

Abhay ganapathi, kukke
The temple exhibits Nepali style of architecture and houses a 21 ft. high statue of Ganapathi, known to one of the biggest monoliths of the deity.

Travel back to Bangalore.
Day 2 comes to an end.
